Currently there are five research initiates underway or complete at the Alberta Conservation Association and the University of Calgary. Each project is a piece of the puzzle and addresses a separate question that will eventually enable us to answer the focal question of the program:

Are pronghorn antelope an appropriate species to act as an indicator
for the grassland ecosystem?

The research initiatives are:

  1. Resource selection by pronghorn antelope in the Grassland Natural Region of Alberta by Mike Grue and Paul Jones, Alberta Conservation Association

  2. Modeling temporal and spatial variation in pronghorn antelope population dynamics in southern Alberta in relation to environmental gradients by Katherine A. Sherriff, Master of Environmental Design, University of Calgary.

  3. Pronghorn antelope migration ecology and connectivity in the Northern Great Plains by Mike Suitor, Master of Environmental Design (candidate), University of Calgary.

  4. Pronghorn distribution in relation to natural and anthropogenic features on CFB Suffield by Tobin Segal, Master of Environmental Design (candidate), University of Calgary.

  5. Measuring the influence of landscape structure on pronghorn antelope movement behavior in south-eastern Alberta by Paul Knaga, University of Calgary.
