Currently there are five research initiates underway or complete at the Alberta Conservation Association and the University of Calgary. Each project is a piece of the puzzle and addresses a separate question that will eventually enable us to answer the focal question of the program:
Are pronghorn antelope an appropriate species to act as an indicator
for the grassland ecosystem?
The research initiatives are:
- Resource selection by pronghorn antelope in the Grassland Natural Region of Alberta by Mike Grue and Paul Jones, Alberta Conservation Association
- Modeling temporal and spatial variation in pronghorn antelope population dynamics in southern Alberta in relation to environmental gradients by Katherine A. Sherriff, Master of Environmental Design, University of Calgary.
- Pronghorn antelope migration ecology and connectivity in the Northern Great Plains by Mike Suitor, Master of Environmental Design (candidate), University of Calgary.
- Pronghorn distribution in relation to natural and anthropogenic features on CFB Suffield by Tobin Segal, Master of Environmental Design (candidate), University of Calgary.
- Measuring the influence of landscape structure on pronghorn antelope movement behavior in south-eastern Alberta by Paul Knaga, University of Calgary.
